Palestinian children deserve spaces to learn, create, and dream – even amid crisis. The Danish House in Palestine works alongside Tamer Institute for Community Education to create small oases of normalcy for children living through genocide, providing safe spaces where creativity becomes healing and art becomes hope.

Since October 7, 2023, children in Gaza have experienced profound trauma and displacement. With schools destroyed and communities scattered, traditional support systems have collapsed. But creativity endures. Through theater, storytelling, and visual arts, children process their experiences while strengthening the cultural fabric that connects them to their identity and community.

What we do together

Working with Tamer’s experienced team, we facilitate creative workshops in displacement shelters across Gaza and with displaced Palestinian children at hospitals in Egypt. Children participate in theater exercises that build confidence while providing emotional outlets. They write stories that help them make sense of their experiences. They create art that expresses what words cannot capture.

For children displaced to Egypt, we provide emergency recreational kits – simple tools for play and creativity that remind them of their right to childhood, even in the most difficult circumstances.

The project also supports Palestinian youth as cultural advocates, producing podcasts, documentaries, and publications that amplify their voices and preserve their experiences for future generations.

Project activities

  • 14 creative workshops (theater, music, writing, drawing)
  • 400 emergency recreational kits
  • Youth podcasts and documentary production
  • 5 books published (including children’s work)
  • 1 exhibition of children’s artwork
  • Youth seminars and cultural programming

Community-driven impact

Every session is designed and led by Palestinian educators who understand their communities’ needs. The stories, artwork, and performances children create become books, exhibitions, and digital content that share Palestinian voices with the world.

This isn’t about imposing external solutions – it’s about providing resources so Palestinian communities can heal and strengthen themselves through their own cultural practices and creativity.

People-to-people solidarity

Here We Remain is funded entirely by Danish supporters who believe in standing with Palestinian communities. This direct solidarity enables authentic partnership focused on Palestinian priorities rather than donor agendas.

Join our community of supporters and help create more spaces where Palestinian children can heal and thrive.
