She is a visionary leader in the fields of culture, children’s and youth literature, education, community-based approaches, and child-centered learning. In her talk, she will share her family’s story, their journey through the Nakba, and what it means to grow up in two worlds. Rim will tell us about the complexities of being a child of a country that is not recognized, and how her parents’ trauma became part of her own, a trauma that will only heal when Palestine is once again recognized.
Rim’s talk will be in Danish.
Khaled Juma, Baraa Alawoor & Sara Rahmeh
In conversation with esteemed author and poet Sara Rahmeh, a panel of Palestinian artists will explore the role of literature and art under occupation. The panel includes Khaled Juma, an author from Rafah with 37 published books and extensive experience in creative writing workshops, and Baraa Alawoor, a prize-winning illustrator from Gaza specializing in children’s and young adult literature, and an experienced artistic workshop facilitator. A third panelist is still TBA, will be updated soon.
Authors for a Free Palestine
In October 2023, a group of 45 Danish authors published the collective long-form poem Jeg er vred (I Am Angry) under the pen name Forfattere for et Frit Palæstina. This evening, members of the group will read selected texts written by children and youth from Gaza. These powerful texts, created through Tamer Institute’s psychosocial work, provide a unique and moving impression of life in Gaza through a child’s eyes. The readings will be in Danish.
